We didn't build a COBOL tool. We built a language factory.
The same method that achieves 100% handle rates on RPG and COBOL
applies to any scripting layer — alive or dead — from any trading platform,
treasury system, or mainframe environment.
The only requirement: share the corpus with us under NDA.
The scripting layers inside trading platforms encode decades of financial know-how — pricing models, settlement rules, risk overrides. We extract that knowledge and certify it in Java 21. Each engagement starts with an NDA.
The dominant capital markets platform across FX, rates, credit, and equities. Business logic lives in two proprietary layers: MSL (Murex Scripting Language) for pre-trade and post-trade event sequences, and XMLF for Data Dictionary formula development — both entirely proprietary with no public corpus. Our MSL grammar v0.1 is already built and tested.
Widely deployed for FX, money market, and fixed income trading. Kondor's customisation layer is anchored in PL/SQL and T-SQL stored procedures that encode pricing models, position keeping logic, and settlement rules. SQL is publicly documented — the validation moat is knowing what the financial logic should produce, not parsing the language.
A leading treasury management system for cash, FX, and capital markets operations. WSS/ION configurations and workflow scripts embed settlement instructions, netting logic, and treasury accounting rules in proprietary formats. Migration demand is high as banks consolidate onto fewer platforms.
Front-to-back capital markets platform with deep derivatives coverage. Calypso customisations use proprietary workflow scripts and Java-based extension points to encode firm-specific pricing, margin, and collateral logic. Extract and certify the custom logic independently of the Calypso licence.
The dominant ETRM/CTRM platform in energy and commodities. Business rules are written in AVS — Openlink's proprietary Application Validation Scripting language — covering deal validation, P&L attribution, and risk calculation hooks. High migration activity as banks exit energy trading desks.
The most widely deployed core banking system globally. T24 customisations are written in jBASE — a MultiValue BASIC dialect — and GLOBUS routines. Banks upgrading from T24 to Transact or exiting to a modern core carry years of custom jBASE business logic that needs certified translation.
The Language Foundry method is not a product built for one language. It is a factory: a reproducible pipeline that reads a grammar, builds a transpiler, validates the output, and certifies the result. We have run it on COBOL, RPG IV, and MSL. The pipeline doesn't care what comes next.
Proprietary scripting languages inside trading platforms have no public corpus — that is by design. Our engagements are structured to work within that constraint. You share scripts under NDA. We build the grammar from what you give us. The corpus stays with the engagement; the Skill Package stays with you.
The validation gate is where domain knowledge becomes irreplaceable. Any tool can parse a grammar. Knowing whether an FX swap reset script produces the correct settlement amounts for a given fixing date requires 38 years of treasury experience — and that gate is not delegatable.
"The value is not in translating COBOL into Java.
The value is in making business knowledge portable."
— Language Foundry, 2026
COBOL and RPG IV are live today with proven 100% handle rates. SAS → Python is in active development. NATURAL and PL/I are on the 2027 roadmap. Other legacy languages on enquiry.
Free-form, fixed-form, SQLRPGLE, and mixed-format. Validated on a 158-program public stress corpus. Packed-decimal arithmetic exact to the last digit.
Fixed-format and free-format COBOL. WORKING-STORAGE, COMP-3, paragraphs, PERFORM VARYING, EVALUATE, OCCURS. Validated against 6,960 programs — 568,095 statements at 100% handle rate.
DATA steps, PROC SQL, PROC MEANS/FREQ, PROC FORMAT, and the full macro language (%let, %macro/%mend, %do loops). Transpiles to idiomatic Python 3 with pandas. SAS date arithmetic and the MISS sentinel reproduced exactly via a purpose-built runtime library.
Heavy install base in European banking and insurance. Similar paragraph/subroutine structure to COBOL. ADABAS database calls replaced with a modern adapter layer.
Third-largest IBM mainframe language after COBOL. Complex pointer arithmetic and storage management handled via the quarantine-ledger incremental approach.
If it has business logic in it, we can build a transpilation path for it. Start with a 30-minute conversation — no commitment, no slides, just an honest assessment of what's tractable and how long it would take.
